day trip from a cruise ship in June

We (two couples) are stopping off in Dubrovnik for just one day in June. We don%26#39;t want to be herded around with a group tour. What would be the %26#39;must sees%26#39; that could be fitted into about 6 hours? Can we hire a personal guide for a walking tour of the city?

Thanks in anticipation.

Tour of the city usually takes about 3 - 4 hours if you want to see everything including the walls! I would recomend the Franciscan monastery+old farmacy, the dukes palace, synagogue (a must if you are jewish!)... The tour of the walls alone takes about 1-2 hours.

Yes, you can hire a personal guide and decide along the way what to see and what places to enter.

If into gastronomy, Ston is a small town only a 40 minutes away from Dubrovnik and it is famous for oysters and wine. %26quot;Kapetanova kuća%26quot; restoran in Ston is a must for everyone into great food!

Thanks Morlaque, that%26#39;s very helpful. Seems like we should miss out the walls and get to Ston!

Thanks again

Thanks Isadriatic, I will investigate that.

Where can you get a personal guide. Can one be hired by way of the internet?

I think you will find that most of the travel agencies in Dubrovnik will have guides who work for them on a regular basis. Try contacting one or two and see what they come up with.

We will be in Dubrovnik on a Saturday when our ship docks and would very much like to visit the synagogue. I realize that there will be no tours on Shabbat, but is it possible to attend services there? Is fo, does anyone know how to arrange this?

Thanks.
