Fist time in Croatia - thinking of Lopud?

Hi!

My husband and I are looking to book a week%26#39;s holiday in July and are looking for a quiet location with a few bars and restaurants, preferably a 3/4 star hotel with a pool and a nearby beach. I have been looking at Lopud as it looks a lovely island but the reviews on it are quite varied - has anyone been that can give me any advice or been anywhere else in Croatia they could recommend? Especially appreciatd recommendations of accomodations.

Many Thanks

Lisa

Hi Lisa Hod,

I suggest you have a look at Cavtat. It is quiet, (in July everywhere will be fairly busy )incredible scenery and Dubrovnik is near and easily accessed by local ferries and bus.

I have posted some pics, have a look.

Lopud is lovely and even has a sandy beach - an item as rare as hen%26#39;s teeth in Croatia. You can easily walk round it and the restaurants look good too (the only thing I have eaten there is the ice-cream which certainly is good). It depends on how active you want to be - Lopud is further away from Dubrovnik, whereas Cavtat is accessible by both bus and boat to Drubrovnik multiple times a day. If you mainly want a relaxing holiday than Lopud will be great, you can get excursions to other Elaphite islands and Dubrovnik (or the cheap ferry to Dubrovnik). On the other hand, Cavtat is a lovely place too just a bit more lively...

Hi Lisa

In July last year my wife and I spent 1 week in Cavtat followed by 1 week on Lopud. We chose Cavtat as a base for exploring the area, particularly Dubrovnik and we chose Lopud as somewhere to chill out for our 2nd week.

Lopud is lovely, with just enough going on in the way of bars and restaurants. One of its attractions is Sunj beach, a large sandy beach on the opposite side of the island from the town. It does get quite busy especially with people visiting by boat, although we never had any trouble finding a spot not too close to other people (if you%26#39;re prepared to go on the naturist section of the beach there%26#39;s even more room). There are 2 bars on the beach serving drinks, ice creams and good lunches. It%26#39;s a bit of a walk from the town (over a hill) but last year one of the locals would take you and fetch you back on his golf buggy for approx £2 each.

We stayed with a local, on a b %26amp; b basis and found him very hospitable. You have to be prepared for Scnapps with breakfast though!! (Do an internet search for Lopud accommodation and this should give you some suggestions).

If you like a nice beach, walking, and generally relaxing with just enough bars and restaurants for the evening then Lopud is fine.

Hope this helps

Hi Lisa

Further to my previous post have a look at www.lopud.nl for accommodation suggestions. This was where we found our b %26amp; b last year.

another idea is korcula. the mini dubrovnik. quiet, good restaurants, great views. also has a nice sandy beach in lumbarda. not far from the old town. another place i visited on the island of korcula was vela luka. although i was there for only a few hours, i liked the quiet feel of it.
