Driving from Zadar to Zagreb and catching a early morning flight to Amsterdam. Where should we stay in Zagreb? We will have to turn in our rental car.

If you have an early morning flight why not stay close to the airport and return the car to the depot there. Try the Garny in Velika Gorica which is about as close as you will get to the airport.
