Recommendation on destination for tourist free island break

My partner and I are looking for a weeks break in Croatia meeting the following requirements and need recommendations of good locations to meet them...

- 1 week in early September

- By the sea, a sandy beach for swimming would be lovely

- Islands look very tempting but can%26#39;t be too hard to get to

- Not a city, smaller town with more authentic attmosphere

- Desperate to avoid touristy spots and big complexes

- Relaxing, beautiful area, interesting historical things to visit?

- Good local food and wine

Croatia looks so lovely and I%26#39;m desperate to avoid the stereotypes of the Med like drunken groups of english people, crowded beaches and general mass tourist-iness and Croatia looks like the answer!

Maybe some very little resort on Makarska riviera such as Zaostrog, Gradac, Podaca, very fine pebble beaches.

Brijuni Island - National Park. Only met 2 Brits there in 20 years. Am always hesitant about mentioning this place in case it becomes too well known but if you love natural beauty and relaxing atmosphere, Roman villas and history (it was Tito%26#39;s island until his death) then you won%26#39;t be disappointed. No shops, no cars. From one Yorkshire person to another get back in touch if you need more information.
