Which are the quiet good Zagreb residential neighborhoods?

My older parents are looking to move to Zagreb from March to May 2008. I am looking for a two bedroom apartment for them over the internet. Which are the nicest nieghborhoods close to shopping as they will not have a car. And quiet definetly not a bar/ restaurant area which would be noisy at night.

What do you Zagreb residents recommend? I was seeing alot of flats in the lower town and also some near the hotel %26quot;West in%26quot;.

Any ideas?

All help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Both locations you were looking at are great for what they need. Maybe even Zrinjevac area

it%26#39;s hard to say just like that..take a look at apartments, make s shortlist or something, and then we can rate each and every one of them..

I think it%26#39;s the best way, might be wrong of course :)

Westin Area/Lower town/Zrinjevac are still a city center and the only small set back may be a vehicle noise/pollution...unless you find pedestrian only area (Like around Varsavska,Bogoviceva streets and Preradovicev/Cvjetni Square).

Pantovcak would be THE residential zone but it comes with higher price tag.

Zagreb has excellent, cheap public transport.( taxis are the no-no)

Thanks so much for the imput! I am looking for a place on a web site called rentinzagreb they show great looking apartments but I haven%26#39;t gotten a response from them. Does anyone know of a realtor I should contact for a furnished apartment?

The pedestrian area would be great or even that more expensive area.

What do you think a two bedroom furnished flat would cost a month? They will only stay 3 months unless they can get a longer visa.

Thanks again for your suggestions. I am trying to figure out how to get them an apartment set up for them via the internet. If anyone knows of a realtor who I could contact that would be great! Then I could ask what is available in those nice areas.

How is it to take the tram? My parents love to walk around and look at the shops and have a coffee. That is why I thought it would be good for them to be in the center. If the trams run frequently maybe they could be in a quieter area a few stops away from the center. Is that a better idea?

Do older people get a discount on the tram?

Thanks again

yeah, trams go every few minutes so it is not a problem..also, I know there is a discount for elder citizens, but not really sure how it works (I think they don%26#39;t even have to pay for the ride)..

and I would recommend you what you mentioned, rent them an apartment few stops from the center itself (but still close enough)!

Rent should roughly costs around $800 and up.And for 3 steady months count on a decent discount. Many realtors are cheaters so check if they have solid purchase insurance/protection policy. In Croatia, when cash is involved - the word equals wind.

For more agencies click here.

Do not worry about transport fares.24hr bus/tram network is less than $4 per head.Better %26quot;worry%26quot; what they gonna do for 3 months in a Zagreb. It is nice place but after 2 weeks they can turn every rock there....twice.Get a guide book and let them check the surroundings. In 100-150mi range they can see some relly nice places.(with hired car or public/tourist transport)

Thank for all your advice. Do you have a suggestion for a rental agency that I can use via the internet? Also a question about Pantovcak. Is it near to markets and to the center? It would be nice if my parents were in a safe %26#39;posh%26#39; neighborhood but they don%26#39;t have a car and they enjoy walking around the city. Is it easy to get to the center from Pantovcak?

Thanks a lot for all of your help!

The beginning of Pantovcak is right next to Britanac square, meaning it is right next to a market place, and is in the walkable part of the city.

However, this goes only for the beginning of the street - since Pantovcak is a steep street and starting from Britanac it climbs the hill (not so easy to walk there - buses drive through Pantovcak).

So be sure to check out where in Pantovcak is the place (it has to be RIGHT NEXT to Britanac).

As for the trams and elder citizens, if they are Croatian citizens they ride for free – not sure for foreigners.

Ammasundari %26amp; Zagrebresident, I think they free rides for retired people don%26#39;t have anything to do with the Croatian citizenship. On zet.hr/tarife/…grad-zagreb.aspx it says (in Croatian)

[(...)]

- people who are 65 years (or older, [I guess]) (with their ID card or passport)

For most other groups with the right to free transit (unemployed, students...) it says %26quot;which reside in Zagreb%26quot; and I also think passports wouldn%26#39;t be mentioned if it only worked for Croatian citizens.

Even if I%26#39;m wrong I really think nobody would ask a foreign older person if he has a ticket.
