First time traveller:- My Tentative Itinerary

Dear Members,

We are planning a 16-day trip hoping to cover Croatia and Slovenia if possible. After doing my own research, I came up with the following Itinierary:-

Day 1 - Arrive at Dubrovnik

Day 2 - City Tour at Dubrovnik

Day 3 - Day trip tp Hvar, overnite at Dubrovnik

Day 4 - Depart from Dubrovnik by rental car to Montenegro

Day 5 - Travel around Kotor

Day 6 - Budva (?) (For our stay in Montenegro, could we base in just one hotel to cover both Kotor and Budva, if so, where should we base?)

Day 7 - Depart from Montenegro to Split

Day 8 - Tour around Split

Day 9 - From Split to Zadar

Day 10- Tour around Zadar

Day 11- Zadar to Istra

Day 12 - Day trip to Plitvice Lake

Day 13 - Istra

Day 14 - Istra to Slovenia

Day 15 - Slovenia, Postjonia Caves and Predjama Castle

Day 16 - Am thinking whether we should drive to Zagreb for flight to London and then back to Hong Kong

Notes:-

1. We%26#39;ll rent a car and would love to know if we have a realistic itinierary. And if the routes we cover are safe?

2. We plan to travel from end June to early July, is it advisable to book our accomodation beforehand?

3. Is this a realistic itinierary?

Sorry of these questions have already been covered in the other posts, it%26#39;s pretty overwhelming as a start. Many, many thanks for your help!

There are several major problems with your itinerary and the first is the day trip to Hvar from Dubrovnik which is quite unrealistic. Also, do a Plitvice trip when leaving Zadar to Istria. It is a good idea to go straight from Slovenia to Zagreb to catch a connecting flight to HK.

I would advise you use the help of the professionals like secretdalmatia.com and they organize the itinerary and book services for you.

Thank you Morlarque!!!!

I have revised my itinerary to accomodate a change in my flight schedule, it%26#39;s total reversal of my tentative plan.

Here it goes:-

At the moment, I%26#39;ve got loads of information on hand but finding it difficult to organize. I also found out that I need to reverse the whole itinerary to accomodate flight schedule and now I actually have 20 full days for my trip.... yipppee!. Here goes a revised itin:-

Day 1 - Arrival in Zagreb

Day 2 - City Tour in Zagreb (need to get over jet-lag for driving)

Day 3 - Zagreb to Slovenia, will base in Bled

Day 4 - Tour around Lake Bled and boat ride to the little island

Day 5 - Tour around Postojna Cave and Predjama Castle. Skocjem Caves if time allows.

Day 6 - Leave Bled. Head to Plitvice, stop-over at Bohinji if time allows. (Actually unsure of distance)

Day 7 - Full day in Plitvice National Park (Is Istra, like Krk and Cres worth spending a day or two?)

Day 8 - Leave Plitvice and long drive to Zadar

Day 9 - Day trip to Krka

Day 10 - Leave Zadar and head off to Split

Day 11 - Day trip tp Hvar (Is it worthwhile to spend a nite in Hvar?)

Day 12 - Day trip tp Korcula or Vis Island for the Blue Cave(Or is it better to go to Korcula from Dubrovnik?)

Day 13 - Head off to Montenegro

Day 14 - Montenegro (still doing research on what to see and do there)

Day 15 - Montenegro or going to Dubrovnik depending on whether there%26#39;s more to see in Montenegro

Day 16 - Drive to Dubrovnik

Day 17 to 20 - Dubrovnik (still researching into what to see and do there, island hopping, releaxing and good food?)

Hey, many, many thanks for your advice and support!!!!!! In return, I could offer my travel experience in Kenya......!

Korcula is nearer Dubrovnik but I would check the ferry timetables to see which works best for you. Although you are may be thinking of a going with a tour company?

(Also, the blue cave on Vis is worth seeing in my opinion...)

|||

Thank you very much Jude C!!!!!!

I just moved from the Kenya forum to Croatia Forum and feel very grateful for all the wonderful advice I got here!!!

Am doing my own research and am now up to Hvar....

1. Plan to spend a nite at Trogir based on the wonderful comments on this site.

2. From Trogir, will drive to Split and take ferry to Hvar.

3. Spend 2 nites in Hvar with a possible side trip to Vis from Hvar.

Would love to know:-

1. If there are car ferry service from Split to Hvar? Just checked the Jardrolinija web site and couldn%26#39;t find a car ferry service on the day we need, which is 30 June. Any other alternatives available?

2. Is there tour service from Hvar to Vis?

3. We will spend 2 nites in Hvar, any good recommendations on apartments?

I know car ferry seevices are infrequent but we need to return the car at Dubrovnik..... and it%26#39;s easier to travel in a rental car when you have a child.

Still very overwhelming but thank you very, very much for your wonderful advice!!!
