dubrovnik to split---how to????

i%26#39;m heading to croatia in june. going to do a few nights in dubrovnik then a night or two in split then to the hvar islands to finish up. dunno what the best way of transportation from dubrovnik to split (car rental, bus, train). can anyone advise????

|||

By car it is much faster then by bus.No trains, twice a week by ferry to Hvar, and then to Split.

|||

Agreed that by car is the best way!

|||

How often is the ferry from Split to Hvar and viceversa and how long does it take?

|||

You can see so much more from the buses, than if driving yourself. The bus takes about 4 hours from Dubrovnik to Split, the boat takes twice that amout of time. Both are great ways to travel though.

Does the bus between Split and Dubrovnik stop or is it a straight shot--what about price--for 3 of us would it be better to rent a car--is there anyplace along the way that we shouldn%26#39;t miss stopping? We%26#39;ll be there @May 20-25--will we need reservations in Split or Dubrovnik or can we just wing it--any suggestions on where to stay in Split many thanks

You won%26#39;t really need to book ahead in May, so long as you don%26#39;t mind going round and looking at places. Buses are either direct or stop - the direct one stops only at Neum in BiH at the border crossing and takes 4 hours and costs 100 kuna per person.

I drove up and down the coastal road between split and dubrovnik in January and I have never feared for my life so much. It is basically dangerous. I would strongly suggest the bus.

|||

you feared of what :)))

next time when you visit europe I will show you the road where you have to fear :))))))

the new (fast) road arrived near makarska and in the next 2-3 years it will reach dubrovnik so it will be much faster and nicer to drive to the south...

Depends on how much you like driving on small, often bendy roads. The road is currently only one lane on each side for most of the way so you have to put up with pressure from trucks and buses all trying to overtake and get somewhere at speed. I don%26#39;t like that kind of driving, others might find it OK. North of Split the road is much improved and a lot of it is dual lanes on each side - I am much happier driving on that.

I have driven the coastal highway twice between Dubrovnik and Split. Both times driving a rental van. Loved the drive and never felt that %26quot;my life was in danger.%26quot; I would definitely recommend a rental and drive the coastal highway. For one thing, you get to decide when to stop and there are some beautiful stops all along the way.
