Travelling from Split to Sobra

We are heading from Split to Mljet (Sobra) in early June, and want to work out the best way to get there ... Ston looked like a lovely stop off ... but wondering if there is a bus from Ston to Prapratno.. We can take a couple of days to get there ...

If anyone has good suggestions it would be great.

First check to see if you could get from Split to Sobra on the ferry on one of the dates you need:

http://www.jadrolinija.hr

(The search by map function is useful for getting a handle on all the ferry routes)

An alternative would be to ferry or catamaran from Split to Korcula. There are frequent ferries from Korcula to the Peljesac peninsula. You could do rent a car for a day to check out Ston, then return to Korcula and get to Sobra by cat or ferry.

Getting to Ston by bus while moving down the coast on the Split-Dubrovnik bus would be complicated if not impossible.

What will be your next stop after Sobra--there might be some way to see Ston while moving back north to Split for example if you took a bus from Dbv to Korcula.

It might be easier to go to Dubrovnik and take the ferry to Sobra from there, either the Jadrolinija ferry or the Nona Ana (G%26amp;V Line) high speed service depending on your timings.

I don%26#39;t think it is even worth trying to get to Ston or Mali Ston from the highway if you are traveling on the bus from Split. It might be easier to visit either place during your stay at Sobra as you would be able to get to the campsite in Prapratno and from there ask for a local taxi across to Ston. That way you would not be stuck trying to find somewhere to leave your luggage whilst exploring the walls and restaurants etc.

Thanks .... good advice ... and good to find a good ferry website too .... We are basing ourselves in Dubrovnik for 4 days ... so perhaps we could do a day trip to Ston from there ....

By the way ... is there a way of finding out about local ferries ?

If you just want local ferries in the Dubrovnik area there are three that I can think of that have timetables on-line. Jadrolinija, G%26amp;V and Nova International. In addition there are regular tourist services from Dubrovnik to Cavtat, Dubrovnik to Lokrum, and a multitude of private boats offering excursions and trips to anyone willing to pay.
