dubrovnik on a cruise

I%26#39;ll be on a cruise which stops in Dubrovnik for 5 hours. How far is the old town from the pier? I don%26#39;t want to take the ships organized land tour, can I get around by myself? And how?

It depends on where the ship berths. If it is at Gruz you can take a bus to the old town, it takes about 10 minutes, or if you anchor of your ship will provide launches that will take you directly to the old town. Audio guides are available for the city walls tour so you would not need a guide for this and the rest of the city is a gentle stroll stopping wherever you feel like.

You can definitely get around on your own and that is what I would suggest anyways. As stated, if you get off at Gruz, just take the bus to the Old Town. The bus numbers would be 1A and 1B.

Dear Balkan Addict and Barrymanilow

Thank you so much for your valuable advises. I think we will be able to see Dubrovnik without an organised tour... I have two more questions:

- Is there taxies around and how much will it cost to the old town?

- If we take the bus, how we will be pay for it? Ticket or cash?

Thanks

Near the bus stop there will be a place( kiosk) where you can buy bus tickets. Don%26#39;t take the taxi, just buy a ticket.

A %26quot;hitch hike question%26quot;: How late in the evening do the busses run from Old Town to the cruise terminals?

|||

I think the bus will stop running at about midnight if I remember right. One can always get a waiting taxi though if you miss the last bus.
