Bol to Dubrovnik

we are planning on 10 days in Croatia in the beginning of June. We are flying into Split and planned on spending 3 days there (with a couple of day trips) and are flying out of Dubrovnik and planned on spending 4 days there. In the middle we were thinking of spending 3 days on one of the islands at a resort, and I think we have settled on staying in Bol, on Brac.

My concern is getting from Bol to Dubrovnik in one day. I see that I can take a ferry from Stari Grad, but my question is whether or not there are private boats or tours that would be going from Bol to Dubrovnik which would be quicker and easier for us? Otherwise, we have to get to Stari Grad by 9 in the morning to make the ferry (according to the winter schedules-- I realize the summer schedule may be more extensive) Anyone have any experience with such a trip?

You could always try to get to Split from Brac and then take a bus to Dubrovnik from Split.

I did this two years ago, we got the ferry from Brac to Makarska and then the public bus to Dubrovnik. The bus goes regularly from Makarska and it takes roughly 3- 4 hours depending on how many stops it makes on the way to Dubrovnik.

We were really hoping to use our travel time from Bol to Dubrovnik on a boat of some sort, kind of like a mini-cruise. It seems though that we may be out of luck. We can always get to Split and take the bus, but I still think we will search for water transport. Thanks for the advice!

On a related note, does anyone have strong opinions for, or against, Bol as the one island we stay on for 3 days. Is that a good choice?

Thanks for the help. We are really excited about our trip and it seems from what we read on here that we made a good choice.

Well Bol is an excellent choice, but there are other excellent choices also. For transportation purposes, Hvar might work out better for you since they are on the Split to Dubrovnik ferry line. If you chose Hvar you would have to figure out what days the ferries run from Hvar to Dubrovnik. You could take a catamaran right to Hvar Town from Split too. Bol is one of many nice places in Croatia. You will not be disappointed with Hvar or even Korcula.

There must be some mistake here: Bol is on the island of Brac and Stari Grad is on Hvar island. In both cases you will have fabulous time but my advice would be to rent a car. That way you would have absolute freedom when traveling around the island and from Split (or Drvenik) you would have about 3-4 hours driving to Dubrovnik. Any time you want - Brac is very well connected to the mainland.

As stated in a previous posting Bol is on the island of Brac. We stayed in Supetar which is on the other side of the island for a week at the end of Septemeber and it is a lovely place to stay. Although it is a fairly small island you have to go up into the mountains to get to other places on the island, there is no coast road so it does take a while to get around. It is a good base as Split is easily accessable via a regualr ferry service although as you are only planning on spending 3 days on the island you will find plenty to do there. I can%26#39;t recommend Croatia highly enough, I am going back next year and I have never liked a place enough before to want to go striaght back.

you can get the bus from bol to supetar (timetable at the bus stop - frequent enough), boat over to split, then a bus from split to dubrovnik, maybe 5 hour journey.easily done in a day. we stopped at makarska, but found it too costa brave-like so jumped back on the next bus and got to Dubrovnik by 8pm ish. bol lovely place though so good choice

Bol is on no direct ferry route, so you%26#39;re looking at a very early morning to get to Stari Grad or Split to get a boat, if there is even one that morning. The ferry to Dubrovnik is so long, I would definitely prefer the bus.

I would also choose Hvar or Korcula over Brac.
