dubrovnik to Hvar

I would like to do a week in Dubrovnik and a week in Hvar (but I will have to return to Dubrovnik to fly back to the UK). I have cases and children. Should I drive or get a ferry?

Would you plan to take the car to Hvar? If not, you may as well take the ferry from Dubrovnik to Hvar and then use the local buses. Sometimes the ferry times are not great to match up with your flight times so you would need to check. I don%26#39;t know how old your children are - if they are very young it may be easier to have a car with you.

Hi,

I don%26#39;t think you%26#39;ll need a car; just take a bus (Dubrovnik-Split) www.ak-split.hr, then take a catamaran /Split-Hvar/ www.jadrolinija.hr; on your way back, if you want to take a ferry to Dubrovnik, you have to spend a night in Korcula.... so, go back to Split and then, take a bus; ferry is only 2 minutes walk away from the bus station... but, don%26#39;t take a ferry, because there is no direct line Split-Hvar... only Split-Starigrad /island Hvar/, then by bus to Hvar....

bye

Thanks for your help. Think the passenger ferry from Dubrivnik to Hvar would be best. Still a bit confused about whether this is a direct service.

I know the car ferry from Dubrovnik to Hvar has a stop in Korcula.

The ferry is direct in that you don%26#39;t need to change but becuase it is the big car ferry it arrives at the port of Stari Grad on Hvar, unlike the small boats/catamarans which can call into Hvar Town. You can only arrive on foot at Hvar Town, no vehicles can disembark. Does this help?

Yes, thanks.

From Stari Grad harbour, which is only 18 km from Hvar town you can take the taxi which will cost 300-350 Kuna (approx 40-45 euro) or you can take the bus which is much cheaper and it costs just 20 Kuna (approx 3 euro) per person.

So you don%26#39;t have to walk all the way to Hvar town.

From Dubrovnik to Stari Grad (Hvar island) there are ferries twice in the week: on Thursdays and Sundays and it takes approx 6-7 hour to arrive to Stari Grad.
