advice for 1st time in Croatia

We are a couple in our 60%26#39;s. We like small family hotels not necessarily on the coast. We like to walk and explore the area, so public transport is a must. We have enjoyed Austria %26amp; Slovenia. We are also on a limited budget. Any help would be appreciated.

Three places for you: Zadar from which explore Paklenica, Krka and Kornati. Then south to Hvar island or Makarska and then to Dubrovnik. Places I reccommend - Vicko in Starigrad or Villa Hresc in Zadar, Podstine in Hvar or Biokovo in Makarska, Ostrea in Mali ston or Stari Grad within the Old Town walls.

Zadar, Primosten, Trogir would be some of the places that I would think that you would enjoy.
