A trip on the M/S Monet is in my future and I would like to know whether it is possible to use a hair dryer on board (dual currency I assume) and if so of what power? My dryer of 1600 was too much for the last small boat, and blew all the fuses. Also, how are the beds: hard, soft, lumpy, undersized? On the river boats in China, the bunks were very hard and it was advisable to ask for a second mattress; would that be advisable for the Monet?

It is my understanding that the elctric current on the Monet is 220 Volt. That would mean that - unless your hair dryer is dual 110-220 Volt current - you will need a transformer, which in turn will limt the wattage you can use. Transformers can be bought individually or as part of international travelling kits in stores like REI and on the web. They are quite compact. In any event have an adaptor plug along for our (110 Volt) plugs to the larger European plugs.

PS: If you go to jauntee.com/jauntee_shipspec_monet.htm, under specifications it says that the Monet provides hairdryers. That%26#39;s the only site I found that mentiones them.
If you can wait until after June 11, I can report from actual experience.

We were on the Monet in September. The Monet is like a small elegant hotel - the bed in our room was a normal bed and extremely comfortable.

Question to hooverquincy: Did you go directly from Marco Polo airport to where the Monet was berthed? If so, what transportation did you use/do you advise?
|||
We used a land taxi - it took about 20 minutes and brought us as close to the boat as possible. I had made a copy of the location of the Monet which was sent to us with the trip confirmation and showed the taxi driver the paper so that there would be no confusion as to where we wanted to go. The big cruise ships dock in a different location and I didn%26#39;t want to be dropped off at the wrong spot. The taxi driver knew exactly where to go. We have taken the water taxi before and love coming into Venice by water but in this situation both the water taxi and vaporetto would have entailed more walking to get to the boarding point.
Have a wonderful trip, Treplow - the anticipation and planning is a lot of fun, isn%26#39;t it?

hooverquincy: The planning sure is fun! And that is the cheap part of the trip!
Your info. is very helpful, also for the return to VCE on June 11, to catch a 12:00 flight back to Denver (via AMS).
Any other suggestions? I know Venice quite well,but anything about the cruise and possible tours. I usually do my own thing, but are there any tours that I should not miss? I%26#39;m into photogrpahy, less into museums, etc.

Treplow - We were on a National Geographic Expedition so they arranged bus transportation to the airport on our return so I%26#39;m sorry I can%26#39;t help you with this.
I think you and I have communicated about the photos once before ... my one piece of additional advice would be that if you get an opportunity to take a tour outside of the coastal cities (for example, we went to a wine tasting when we were in Korcula), it is interesting to see the countryside off the usual tourist route. It%26#39;s not as stunningly picturesque as the coast but still worth a look.
