Hello
I have been madly booking accomm throughout Europe for our holiday in July/August.
I booked a private apartment in Dub this week and the owner commented that my word is enough and a deposit or credit card confirm was not required. This is not like all the others apartments I have booked within France, Slovenia dn Italy so I am a little worried! He added that he would email me a month prior and confirm again.
Should I be concerned that he may possibly give away our room? I would have thought taking a deposit would be a necessity given the season we are travelling.
Any thoughts?
Thank you

So far I have never, ever put down a deposit for a room (but then we%26#39;ve been lucky). We always request written confirmation instead and so far no one has demanded a deposit (even if it is mentioned on their website or whatever). And we travel a lot. On the other hand, we avoid travel in July/August so cannot comment on that in particular.
About a month before we go we confirm by email. Then about the week before we go we confirm again. We then print out the confirmations and take them along just in case (have never needed them).
But we always do stay in B%26amp;B%26#39;s, pensions, apartments, etc. We avoid hotels (don%26#39;t like them) so perhaps that would be different.
The times we have been to Dubrovnik we%26#39;ve booked without needing a deposit (so far). I personally would be ok with what you%26#39;ve done. You should be alright.

I think this varies and it depends on how you book. If you book with an agency they will be set up for credit cards but in my experience most of the individual owners are not (and want cash). I have booked in Dubrovnik and not been asked for a deposit, an apartment that was on a website but when booked it is done individually with the owner.
Then again on other occasions I have also been asked to send a deposit in Euros - literally cash through the post.
I think the e-mail paper trail is enough - that is as much proof of a booking as is the fact that an amount has been taken from your credit card.

I stayed in apartments last year in Trogir and Dubrovnik and did not pay a deposit on either one. Asswuming you have found the apartments via a reputable website I would not be too worried.

i book the apartment in dubrovnik and i pay deposit.
but iff anything hapend just go to tourist center in dubrovnik and you will find accommodation without problem

My main concern was that the owner did not take a deposit from me so that he could wait and see if anyone else wants a booking at that time but for longer (as we only booked for 3 nights). By not taking a deposit it is much easier for him to tell me no reservation is held once we turn up in August! Whereas obviously if he took money from me then it would harder to get rid of me....
So yeah, just got to wait it out I guess!
