Some advice for a short trip to Croatia

Hello all

In the previous two years we have successfully found some undiscovered parts of Greece, we want to do the same this year in Croatia.. Having never been before some advice..

Generally we like to travel and see things, much more into the national parks the sitting on beaches and have always used public transport...

Not sure how long we have at the moment, but a week and abit and then a return trip later on in the year.. After getting a few books it would seem that Split is the place to fly into from, it would be good if we could perhaps make are way down to another town or city and perhaps fly home from there... Would be happy to use trains, buses and maybe even ferries...

Thoughts and ideas of a nice holiday that takes in the countries natural beauty rather then the touristy areas. Thanks in advance.

Zadar area is what you are looking for: 3 national parks within 100 Km, Sibenik, beaches of Nin, sailing from Biograd...

Agreed that Zadar would be a great place for you to go. You could even fly into Zadar.

Our favourite route is flying to Zagreb and doing Istria first. Istria is our favourite part of the country - you can easily escape crowds. There are some tiny villages you drive through where people literally stop what they are doing to stare. It almost seems as though they have never seen tourists before! Love it. Rovinj is a must-see although it teems with people.

I would agree with Zadar for a day or two as well. Plitvice Lakes and Krka are gorgeous.

Split, in my opinion, is a good day trip. We find Trogir to be much more charming and pleasant for wandering.

Dubrovnik, of course, is spectacular.

If you want to get off the beaten path I would definitely recommend renting a car. Croatia is extremely easy to navigate and drive compared to many European countries.
