5 days in Split - too long?

Hi were off to Dubrovnik via Split. Having booked the flight and rooms in Split for 5 nights I have read that some feel there is little do and Split is a dump! Is this to be believed? Help!

|||

Hi! I wouldn%26#39;t say Split is a dump but I personally would find half a day to be enough to spend there. Diocletian%26#39;s Place is pretty much it. I think it is partially because there are so many other and better (in my opinion) things to do and places to see. Trogir (near Split) is much prettier and charming and smaller; therefore it is ideal for wandering the gorgeous tiny and twisty alleyways.

How long are you spending in Dubrovnik?

|||

I also wouldn%26#39;t consider Split a dump, but wouldn%26#39;t spend more than a couple of days there at the most. I also agree that a smaller place like Trogir would be better. Or maybe stay in Split and take day trips from there almost every day?

Split area is great so no need to stay in Split for 5 days. Besides, Split is quite charming with great night life etc

Day trips to Trogir, islands, Krka NP, Plitvice Np...all that is available while inSplit!

Thank you all so much for the comments I have been able to read. I am sure the day trips and island hopping will keep us well occupied; if not, we will catch the slow boat to maybe Korcula and then DBV for the remaining 6 days. Happy Holidays All!

Hi again

... more about Split – Diokletian Palace not included :-)

Split is a city with a 1700 year old tradition; it is known as a center of Croatian culture

People from Split are very proud of the city – I chose the song of Dino Dvornik „You can speak about me and about whole word but I don%26#39;t want to hear a word about Split“...- they are famous for their sense of humor /try to find some literary works or DVDes of Miljenko Smoje - „Malo and Velo Misto“, or the famous operetta „Mala /Little/ Floramy“ of Ivo Tijardovic, listen some song of traditional „klapa“ singers, visit the famous Summer theatre festival „Splitsko ljeto“ in Peristil... museums /the Archeological museum is one of the oldest in Croatia/, Gallery Masterovic, the Art Gallery in Franciscan Monastery in Poljud, Old Quarter Varos, Marjan Forest Park, the beach „Bacvice“ with the players of the traditional game „Picigin“, very nice beach „Znjan“.....

The greatest tradition in Split is Sport - we won 56

olimpic medals and it is the city with about 200.000 abitants... so, Split is very %26quot;special%26quot; city with very %26quot;special%26quot; people and as you see,it is not only Diokletians Palace... there are lot%26#39;s of things to see and to do... lot%26#39;s of events, entertainment, nice bars, great restaurants, discotheques and beautiful people....

So, if you are kind of tourist interested only to take some photos, 1 day in Split is enough - more then enough....

but if you want to %26quot;live%26quot; just a little part of our %26quot;Split tradition%26quot; 5 days are not enough...

Anyhow, Trogir is a must...

And have a wonderful time

Thank you Jeanne for your last response. You obviously feel passionately about your city and I didn%26#39;t mean my posting to cause any offence. As a mere visitor I simply want to know how to make the best use of our precious holiday time. From our last holiday in Croatia we know that it is a beautiful country with lots to offer and are looking forward to exploring a new area - Split and its vicinity.

Kind regards,
