driving from dubrovnik to zagreb?? a few questions

Hello everyone,

Dubrovnik on July 5 and 6 is completely booked, I can%26#39;t find a room for my family of 4 (2 little boys and me and my husband)...I was considering taking our rental car and driving from Dubronvnik to Zagreb where we fly back to the united states on Tuesday the 8th.

Does anyone have any suggestions of where to stop and stay along the way? Is this a doable trip or am I crazy with two little kids?

Portlandlupe

Thank you soooo much for any replies and suggestions!

Definitely Plitvice lakes, stay overnight in Slunj.

I like the idea of Plitvice, but that might be a long day of driving. I would look into Zadar or something a little closer to half way to stop and stay at.

No, it%26#39;s cetrainly doable, especially since now there is a highway all the way from Split to Zagreb. However, you could fly from Dubrovnik to Zagreb, the flight lasts only 45 min instead of driving for hours. If you decide to drive, count on going through a border crossing at Neum (Croatia is divided in two parts - between them is a couple of kilometers of Bosnia and Herzegovina), but there%26#39;ll probably not be any queues.

If you decide to stay somewhere along the way, you can always try, as people said, Zadar (or any place from Sibenik to Zadar, for that matter - for example, Vodice), although I must say I was never impressed by the Croatian sea - I have a feeling that when you%26#39;ve seen one Dalmatian town, you%26#39;ve seen them all. But that%26#39;s just me.

Anyway, to see what towns are near the highway or some other major road, see this interactive map: www.cromaps.com/vacmap/autokarta_hrvatska.htm

Have a nice trip!

There are soo many great places to stop at! Makarska and the neighboring towns, Šibenik area with Krka National park, Zadar area (town of Nin or Biograd!)and, of course Plitvice
