a month in croatia

planning a month in croatia, probably sept-oct

any suggestions as to number of days to stay in one place

any idea as to what are the best places to stay, apartments as opposed to hotel

how is driving a rental car

which cities in croatia are a must see

any ideas you may have renting a car etc

|||

I would start with Dubrovnik and then.... you%26#39;ll see.... maybe you will stay there for whole month :-) who knows....

anyhow, in that period it is not necessary to plan the voyage... just choose the first destination and follow your %26quot;sense of adventure%26quot; ...

or... for the beginning... start with Trogir, then Split... take a ferry - visit the islands Hvar, Bol, Korcula to Dubrovnik.... then rent a car... go to Zadar, visit the lakes of Plitvice, go to Zagreb and in the end - peninsula Istra /Opatija, Pula, Porec, Rovinj/...

hotel or apartment? - it depends on you

it will be a great experience

go for it and enjoy

I would start from zagreb and do Zagorje region (3-4 days all together), Istria is definitely 5-6 days. Zadar and Sibenik (4-6 days) Island of Brac 2-3 days) , Hvar 3-4 days), Split area 3 days and the rest in Dubrovnik. Car rental is the best way to see ALL!

I would look at anything from Dubrovnik to Zagreb --- including the islands of Korcula, Hvar and Brac. The mainland cities of Split, Trogir, Zadar, and anywhere in the Makarska Riviera. I would definitely look into stopping at Plitvice and then spend your last day or two in Zagreb. A month in Croatia---- My dream vacation!!! Lucky you!!!

I definitely recommend renting an apartment. My husband and I went to Croatia last June, and we saved a lot of money by staying in apartments and we were also able to stay in better locations. We got our apartments through jaywaytravel.com The prices were reasonable and there are pictures of the apartment online.

Jay of JayWay Travel gave us a mobile phone to use when we were there for no additional cost. (He met us at the airport with the phone.) We called him whenever we had questions or needed a restaurant reservation (or recommendation). Jay bought us tickets for our bus and ferry travel and dropped them off at our apartment. It made it much easier to have someone living in Croatia who could easily navigate the transportation system and set up our travel timing, etc. I highly recommend asking Jay about travel within Croatia when you set up your apartments. He can set up a taxi to pick you up at your apartment and bring you to the ferry station, etc. For us all the transportation and apartments were one fixed cost we paid by check before we left New York.

As for places to go, Dubrovnik is a MUST. It is more expensive than I expected, but a beautiful, beautiful city. Hvar is also fantastic. I would NOT plan much time in Split. Use Split as a jumping-off point to get out to the islands.

If you are looking for cheap airfare to Dubronvik, check Ryan Air from London. We flew into Split, but on the last day we would have saved a lot of time if we flew from Dubrovnik instead. One idea is fly to SPlit, do the islands, go to Dubrovnik by ferry, then fly home from Dubrovnik. Discount European carriers will be a ton cheaper than British Air.

We rented a car (set up by JayWay the day before) and drove to Montenegro for a day which was interesting. Montenegro is not in the EU but they use Euros, so plan accordingly to pay tolls on your way to your destination. The driving is easy.

Good luck! Croatia is beautiful and a month is a great amount of time.

Are you a woman, and are you planning this to travel alone? Am looking to do the whole region as reasonably as possible, and need someone to share expenses, etc. Want to see all the %26quot;hot%26quot; spots and use as many modes of transportation as necessary and that will be fun. I am in my sixties, a retired educator, and have plenty of energy.

Thank you for anticipated response.
