Best destinations - don't care about distance or itineraries

Hi all,

I may be visiting Croatia in mid-March. Whether the weather would be warm enough to lie on the beach all day or not, that%26#39;s not what I%26#39;m interested in. I%26#39;m more interested in seeing great cities and towns, great hiking, great scenery, etc. I%26#39;m not one to sit still for too long.

All of that being said, what are your favourite destinations in Croatia and why? Most posts discuss what can be seen in one trip, or what is a good day trip from one place to another. I just want to know, straight up, what are the highlights of this country?

Anyone have a top 10 list, for example?

I%26#39;d appreciate any input.

Thanks.

Top 10 (make that 11)

1. Istria - gorgeous scenery, lovely medieval hilltowns such as Bale, Hum (population 17, I think), Groznjan, Grascice, etc. My favourite part of the country.

2. Dubrovnik

3. Trogir

4. Plitvice Lakes

5. Islands - Korcula and Mljet are my favourites

6. Zadar

7. truffle hunting (not applicable to you in March)

8. Rovinj

9. driving/navigating is easy

10. fresh seafood is wonderful, as are local cheeses, wines and olive oils.

11. Culture and people.
