Car rental in Croatia

Has anyone rented a car from economycarrentals.com in Croatia? If so, were they alright? Also, any comments on driving in Croatia? Plan to drive from Dubrovnik to Split, stopping along the way. Thanks.

We rented a car from Dubrovnik area but booked it direct through our hotel, not internet. It was OK. Driving in Croatia is similar to anywhere on the continent, the locals appear to be in a big hurry. You should drive with your headlights on during the daytime. The scenery along the coast road is wonderful.

The biggest problem I had, was still driving like a Croatian the first few days back in UK.

Have a safe trip.

While they may be %10 or so more than economycarrentals.com, I%26#39;d recommend holidayautos.co.uk. I%26#39;ve used them to book all over Europe and North America and never had any problems. We%26#39;re planning on going to Croatia for a week this spring and will be using them again.

I think economycarrentals is OK. I have booked from them and they are certainly cheaper than the other operators.

Headlights MUST be on. Cost you 300 Kuna if not.

Stopping on the way I suggest Ston and maybe %26quot;my village%26quot;, Komarna if you want to see a real sleepy and unspoiled place.

And also Stop in Makarska and Omis.

Travelling solo in mid-October I%26#39;ve considered a car rental along the same route yet have read the bus system is excellent and have decided to do that. What made you decide to drive? SK

Thanks so much for all of your comments. We like to drive because that way you do not have to adhere to schedules %26amp; can stop along the way if you see something interesting.

SAVE YOURSELF FROM HAVING A HOLIDAY EXPERIENCE FROM HELL %26amp;amp; GO WITH ANYONE ELSE BUT ECONOMY CAR RENTALS!!!

We booked %26amp;amp; paid for a car rental in Croatia through Economy Car Rentals, who are supplied by HM Car Rentals. It was the absolute worse service we%26#39;ve ever received!!! Not only was the car so filthy (both inside %26amp;amp; out with animal fur, bugs %26amp;amp; bird droppings), when we went to check over the damage report... the staff had missed several scratches, dents, cracks in windscreen etc! When we pointed the problem out, we were told that they had decided to cancel the car hire we had paid for in advance!!! I called Economy Car Hire immediately for help %26amp;amp; their response was... sorry we can%26#39;t help you, we are just the broker! So there we were left high %26amp;amp; dry at Rijeka Airport, without a car %26amp;amp; no other car rental availability until the following day... we had no accommodation organised, as we had planned to drive to Plitvicka National Park. We ended up paying a fortune for a nights accommodation %26amp;amp; £100.00 more for the only car rental available, which unfortunately was the smallest class... a very tight squeeze for 4 grown adults plus luggage.
