Croatia itinerary question

Hi everyone,

I will be travelling to Croatia in August (I know, not the best time, but it%26#39;s out of our control.)

Our proposed itinerary is as follows (Hvar and Dubrovnik are the two places we really want to see. We have 6 nights). Would you guys mind telling me how this sounds?

Day 1: arrive Dubrovnik early. Overnight in Dubrovnik.

Day 2: Dubrovnik.

Day 3: Day trip to Montengro with rental car, overnight in in Dubrovnik

Day 4: Depart early, scenic drive to Split. Drop off car, ferry to Hvar, spend night.

Day 5: Hvar

Day 6: Pick up car in Split, drive back to Dubrovnik, side trip to Mostar if time. Overnight in Dubrovnik.

Day 7: Depart.

We are avoiding taking the car ferry because I understand it is much more difficult to secure a place - especially in August.

Finally, do you recommend using a travel agent to book everything (cars, ferries, etc), or is this something we can handle on our own from here?

Thanks so much.

Hi!

First of all, you can%26#39;t book ferries in advance at all. You can only buy ticket yourself on the day of travel. If your travel without a car that would be no problem at all, no lines and you can get tickets in high season too. Check for schedule here: www.jadrolinija.hr/default.aspx?dpid=1632.

If you want to see only town Hvar you don%26#39;t need a car anyway.

Be aware that there are 220 km from Dubrovnik to Split, most of the road was no highway last summer, so maybe you will need 3 hours or more. You need 2 more hours to get to Hvar.

Second, it%26#39;s very hard to get a room for 1 or 2 nights in high season. For that you may use a travel agent assistance. Hvar and Dubrovnik are overcrowded in August and booked in advance, except for expensive hotels. So be sure to plan your stay early enough.

Altogether I find your itinerary a little too ambitious for 6 days. I would suggest to concentrate on Dubrovnik and Hvar and maybe visit town Split when you are already there. Nice journey,

hi,

I think your itinerary is ok

don%26#39;t worry about 2 hours ride to Hvar; just take a catamaran and you are in town in 45 minutes and... you%26#39;re right; leave a car in Split, then pick it up when you come back from Hvar

enjoy

I%26#39;m with apple231, this is too ambitious of an itinerary relative to the amount of time available. I would drop at least 1 if not 2 of these destinations (Split, Mostar, Montenegro). I would recommend that you scale back the number of places and try to spend more time in each particular place to soak up more of the local feel/flavor/pace of life...
