We are planning a two week trip to Croatia in September. We%26#39;re flying into Zagreb, having two nights there and then will drive to Pula, down to the Plitvice Lakes %26amp; then down the coast to Dubrovnik. I haven%26#39;t a clue how long we%26#39;ll need in each place, or which islands to visit. Also, we%26#39;d love to visit Mostar in Bosnia, is this possible for a day trip from Croatia %26amp; what happens with regards to passports etc?

Are you sure you want to go to Pula and then all the way to Dubrovnik? If you would leave Pula for another trip, it would be best to hit Plitvice on the way to Split, spend a night at Plitvice and get to Split. Then head out to the islands--- Hvar or Brac and continue on down the coast. You could definitely hit Mostar as a day trip from Dubrovnik and you will have to go through a check point when you enter Bosnia-Herzegovina and they will just check your passport.

I would agree. Pula is a nice place for half a day or so but is not a must-see in my opinion. I would not go out of my way to see it. The amphitheatre is interesting but take my word for it - there are far more interesting places to see (unless you have lots of extra time or are absolutely set on it).
September is a fantastic time to see Croatia. In my opinion one night in Zagreb is enough (or just a few hours), several nights in Istria (gorgeous hilltowns), one or two nights in the Plitvice Lakes area, one or two nights in Trogir (near Split) and about four nights in Dubrovnik. That excludes the islands - there are so many it is difficult to recommend just one or two. I would maybe try for just one or two (I love Mljet - peaceful and lush) for a few nights.
Sorry that I cannot commend on Mostar - have not been there so cannot comment on passports and such.

Thanks for your suggestions - I was getting a bit overwhelmed, so have decided to skip Pula %26amp; the Istria region this time %26amp; head from Zagreb to Plitvice, then onto Split, Trogir, Hvar, Brac %26amp; then onto Dubrovnik. Is it a help or a hindrance to have a car when visiting the islands?

If you want to explore the island, then its a help. If you just want to get to the island, it is more of a hindrance.

wow--all those islands in one trip? I would suggest picking 2 and really enjoying them. I think taking the car ferry from Makarska to Supetar on Brac and driving to Bol was easy. We rented in Dubrovnik, drove to ferry, stayed on Brac, ferry back to stay in Trogir (visited Split, Solona, and Krka from there), returned car to Split airport and flew home. Previously, no car to Hvar or Korcula, but rented scooter on island----also easy! September%26#39;s so beautiful there, you%26#39;re already stressing....don%26#39;t try to live out of a suitcase and instead enjoy! Whatever you miss, you tell yourself you%26#39;ll have to just go back again to see!
