We have just returned from two wonderful weeks in Croatia, traveling from Dubrovnik (with a side trip to Mostar) to Split, day trip to Hvar and four days on Vis. It was an exceptional holiday to say the least and we look to returning soon to do Istria and region. If we can offer any advice on our travels, do offer your questions.
As the advertisements say . . . It%26#39;s the Meditteranean coast as it once was.

I%26#39;m so glad you enjoyed your holiday. Thanks for the feedback.
I%26#39;m sure you will love Istria too. It%26#39;s got a special charm of it%26#39;s own.

I am wrestling with renting a car versus flying between Dubrovnik and Split with a two day stay on Hvar. What are the roads like? We have driven the Amalfi coast and I got a little crazy in the car. Are the roads as bad? Did you take the ferry? Was Hvar worth only a day trip or woeth staying for the two days?

I will be staying in Split a couple days, and wanted to do the day trip to Hvar. What did you do? Do you have any recommendations? Thanks!

We are going in August; my daughter is there now studying, and we will meet her. Any advise welcome...Is Hvar very touristy and crowded? Did you eat in any nice, local, un-fancy places you can recommend? What did you enjoy the most? thanks.

We have just come back from Croatia and I would have to say that driving over there did not look like much fun. We took a bus from Dubrovnik to Split (5 hours). The road goes along the coast and is one lane in each direction. We saw some risky driving in both directions and there is not much room for error. We enjoyed the bus trip as it was relaxing and we were able to get a good view of the countryside and the sea as we went along.

We drove from Dubrovnik to Split on a Sunday and the road were definite;y not one lane highways. They were in good conditions and the traffic was very light. It was not a challenge at all.

We went out to Hvar for the day from Split. It was quite lovely and not nearly as crowded as we had been led to believe. However I can imagine what it might be like in July and August. We did not eat at any of the restaurants but bought our lunch at a great cheese shop on the left hand side going from the bus - right afteryou get off the bus - down to square.

It would have bee nice to spend the night in Hvar, hhowwever, we had bookd reservations in Vis. And Vis is truly a special place . . . not a lot of cars, no tourist shops, only a few restaurants to choose from. It feels like the Italian coast must have been 50 or more years ago. There is no heavy action night life on Vis.

Haven%26#39;t been able to find a train from Dubrovnik to Split.
Not sure one exists, but I thought I would check with everyone on the board.
Thanks in advance,

We will be going to Dubrovnik in October and looking for some information about transportation getting there from Vienna. If you traveled by train I would like to know from where and how long the journey was. Also where did you dtay while in Dubrovnik and how did you make your reservations. What are the important things to see in Dubrovnik and or the areas outside the city.
Thanks,
Petaluma reader
