Dubrovnik in Sept

Hi,

Planning on 5 nights in an apartment in quiet Mlini (between Cavcat and DBV). Are there enough cafes, etc there? Is this a good homebase for daytrips to Hvra and Split using ferries or should we extend/hop or take the 7 day cruise? We are coming from hectic Rome and Amalfie coast so want relaxing end to our vacation. Not ineterested in tours as we are independent travelers. Any suggestons are appreciated!

Thanks,

Dubrovnik area is not a good base for day trips to Split area so my suggestion would be to stay 2 nights in Dubrovnik and then proceed to Split.

Thanks for your reply. I have been reseaching and think we will stay in Hvar 4 nights which seems to be convenient to Split and other islands for day trips and a nice area to stay??? Then go to DBV for 2 nights for our return flight home. Do you have suggestions on best way to travel from Hvar to DBV? Ferry/car/flight, not excited about a long bus ride!

several options to get from Hvar to Dubrovnik but all include long rides. I would do it this way:

Get to Hvar for 3 nights, one night in Split and rent a car to get to Dubrovnik. Leave car there and you enjoy the rest of the stay. Only get some private transfer or a cab to the airport (about 40 USD). car can be rented for relatively small bucks but use sixt.hr which has representatives both in Split and Dubrovnik and don%26#39;t charge one way.

I think that is great advice from Morlaque. Rent the car if possible and enjoy the drive at your own pace and feel free to stop along the way.

Good idea! Is it a safe drive? Can%26#39;t be worse than Italy? Not sure interested in staying overnight in Split but will tour the day we drive to DBV. Would it be a hassle to stay in Mline or Cavtat which are on list for day trips anyways, or stay in Dubrovnik. Not a big fan of staying in wall towns but want convenience to Old Town etc, and want quieter area that has a terrece with sea/city views which Cavtat and Mline have. Any recommendations in Hvar.

Thanks again :)

Safe and easy to drive in Croatia - a lot easier than Italy, in my opinion.

If you are unsure of staying a night in Split can I suggest staying in Trogir? It is a charming town that is lovely and so much prettier than Split. I am not knocking Split at all - it is that we just personally prefer Trogir (we are not big city people).
