Hi,
We are staying at a villa near the village of Motovun in Istria in August of this year and I am not sure which airport would be better to fly to. I know that there are flights to Trieste in Italy and to Ljublijana in Slovenia on Saturday (which is when we need to fly) however I don%26#39;t know how easy it is to drive from these airports.
I have read that the traffic can be bad from Solvenia on Saturdays and that there can be problems with the car hire in that the insurance is sometimes not valid when the car is hired in a different country from that which you are driving into.
Can anyone help? The flights are cheaper into Ljublijana as a result of Ryanair%26#39;s rip off extras!
Thank you.

How about looking into flying into Slovenia, then taking a bus to Croatia, then renting your car, then getting to Motuvun?

Monarch should activate (and hopefully with low promotion prices) a link to Pula.FlyGlobeSpan has a service there from the Teesside.(RyanAir already flies to Pula)
EasyJet has service to Ljubljana and they used to fly to Rijeka Airport.9which is fairly close too)
(Unlikely so in the middle of the season) if you find a good deal to Zagreb it is only 4 easy hrs away by car/bus.
Traffic bottleneck (SLO,CRO,ITA) works in 2 ways.Mornings the jam is towards the coast with the folks arriving - at the evening it is exodus on the way out.(Maybe there is a window after lunch with bearable bearings.)

When we fly to Croatia from Canada we fly to Zagreb. Easy for Istria.
You will likely see tons of tourist buses at Motovun. It is a pretty town - just beware that it can be extremely crowded. Do you have other destinations/towns chosen for Istria as well? Istria is my favourite part of the country.
