Hi,
I%26#39;ve been reading some excellent posts and would appreciate some more advice.
I am looking to holiday in Croatia in August with my wife and 2 kids (5 and 2). I am hoping to be near a beach or two, fairly central to a town and some amenities but away from the crowds (not asking for much then!) I hear Istria is nice and less mobbed than destinations further south and want to ask if anyone can recommend somewhere nearby?
We may hire a car depending on if you think it is a good idea. Are transport links ok (by train for example)?
Any advice appreciated
Thanks

Hi Greg,
If you are flying to Pula and are considering the Istria region the main coastal resorts are Porec, Rovinj, Rabac %26amp; Opatija. August is the busiest month of the year and coastal towns are going to quite busy.
Croatia is not really known for its beaches, sandy bays are few and far between but the water is clear.
Driving in Croatia is relatively straightforward once you have got used to the overtaking! Much of the time the roads are free from traffic, though major routes to the coast are very busy during summer, especially the weekend.
Buses are the main form of transport in Croatia, the rail network is concentrated in the North and East of the country.
There are plenty of good quality family hotels in Istria such as the Hotel Eden in Rovinj.
Alternatively, have you considered flying to Split and staying in a resort along the Makarska Riviera?
Unfortunately, August is going to be a busy time where ever you go but if you choose a quieter resort such as Tucepi for example this may be an option to explore.
Have a look at some UK tour operators such as Thomson%26#39;s or Holiday Options www.holidayoptions.co.uk
Holiday options specialise in Croatia. Just want to add my usual disclaimer, no personal connection just use them for my holidays!
Hope this helps - happy planning!

Welshtraveller111 gave you some great advices!
I would perhaps advise on islands of Middle Dalmatia or look up Robinson houses on Kornati or Pasman which are perfect for families with kids. Don+t expect a lot of sandy beaches but rocky shore has great sea life and your 5 year old would have a time of his life.
