Zagreb to Plitvice Lakes day trip on public transport

We are planning to visit Plitvice as a day trip from Zagreb on a weekday in late May. I have researched which buses actually pass through Plitvice (thanks for info on this forum re many buses now bypassing Plitvice on the new freeway) and, although it will be a long day, it fits in with our plans better to return to Zagreb that night. We plan to catch the 7.30am bus from Zagreb and leave Plitvice around 5pm.

My questions relate to the return journey from Plitvice to Zagreb:

1.Do we buy return tickets in Zagreb or when we board the bus in Plitvice?

2. Is the Plitvice bus stop easily recognisable for the return journey? I know there is no actual bus station but the bus picks up at the roadside - is there a bus sign?

3. I also realise that the bus will only pick up if there is room aboard. I am assuming there will be spare seats - the bus I think we will catch will be coming from Vir via Zadar. Are there likely to be seats available?

I must admit the uncertainty about the return journey is making me a little nervous so I need either reassuring or advising on alternatives.

One alternative we have considered is a day excursion with a tour company.

Renting a car for the day is not an option for us unfortunately.

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you

1) don%26#39;t buy return ticket in Zagreb but when boarding at Plitvice lakes (it will probably not be the same bus Co).

2) There are bus stop, make sure you%26#39;re on the right side of the road.

3) hard to say, but it should be ok on a week day end of may in direction Zagreb. Don%26#39;t take the chance to wait for the last bus going to Zagreb, make sure there is one or some other later , that way it will be less risky.

Yes your other alternative is a day excursion with a tour company.
