Hi,
Could anyone advice me if Split is a good starting point to visit Plitvice Lakes?? I mean
1/ how far is it?
2/ bus connection (I`ve read some topic on the subject), fares and timetable link, please?
3/ If I plan to stop over there for a day would it be easier to rent a car?
thanks in advance

Thanks, Kellysmith, but that is not the answer I expected.
1/ How far.. I mean not bus-hours, but in km? Because I consider now two options - flight to Zagreb and start from there or flight to Split and the same. What route to Plitvitce would be shorter - from Zagreb or from Split (by car, certainly)?

I think it would be better to fly into Zagreb and then go to Plitvice....it is much closer. You might want to look at viamichelin.com to look for distances and times.

Split - Plitvice = 256 km
Zagreb - Plitvice via Slunj = 137 km
Better to go there from Zagreb.
you can also fly to Zadar with Ryanair
Zadar - Plitvice = 133 km
you can check Zagreb bus station timetable on http://www.akz.hr/vr/voznired.aspx
as %26quot;Polaziste%26quot; type zagreb. As %26quot;odrediste%26quot; type zadar
check the %26quot;stanice%26quot; column to make sure they go through Plitvice lakes (plitvicka jezera) because buses going on the highway don%26#39;t stop there.

Enjoy your trip.
