Planning on renting a villa or apartment in or near Dubrovnik in May. Having trouble deceiding whether to stay in the city or one of the nearby towns. Looking at places near the old town, in Lapad area, in Lapad Bay region,in Cavtat, the village of Gornji Brgat and an area calling itself Mini-Dubrovnik. Guess that we are wodering if in or near the old town might be to crowded and noisy or if some of the other spots may prove a hassle because of the distance from the city and than finding parking. Any and all help would be appretiated.

We stayed in an apartment right outside Ploce Gate and it was very quiet and about a 10 min walk to the gate of the old city. We had a view right out of a magazine!! I would highly recommend that area. Our aprtment was directly above the best hotels in Dubrovnik.

Willycat,
How long are you staying for? Will you a car? Do you want to be in the centre of everything or want a quiet retreat to re-charge your batteries.
We stayed in the old town and loved the atmosphere and wide choice of restaurants and bars. We stayed at Apartment Renata which is very close to the harbour but in a quiet side street. Check out the reviews.
Apart from when the cruise ships are in we did not find Dubrovnik to be particularly busy. It depends what you are used to but I am guessing that its a lot quieter than Chicago!
We did a day trip to Cavtat. Very nice but quite small. Beyond the beach there is not much to do. If you really want to explore Dubrovnik itself travelling to and from Cavtat every day would become quite tiresome

Hi I would recommend Apartment Lobrovic in the Old Town .... great location and beautiful apartment. We just got back and really enjoyed our stay. If you are looking for parking, there is free parking around the Old Town. The apartment Owner adviced us as we will be returning later this year and will be renting a car.

My husband and I stayed at Apartmani Lucic. I have to say that room has one of the best views in the entire Old Town. It is located near the best part of the wall, so that the tourists may stop to see the view of the Old Town and you can hear them saying nice things about the view. Don%26#39;t be afraid when you hear a tourist saying %26quot;Look, nice view!!%26quot; when you are in the bathroom. They are talking about the view of the Old Town and the Sea, they are not peeping your personal business in the bathroom.
The room was clean and the owner was nice, plus the rates are not any higher than other apartments within the Old Town. Conveniently walking distance to grocery stores, beaches, restaurants, etc. Only complain is that since it%26#39;s located in the higher part of the town, if you are coming back from the main street, you have to bear with a lot of stairs. (probably that%26#39;s a very minor and pleasant complain to most of you) I would highly recommend his apartment.

dubrovnik-private-accommodation.com/Maja%20a… This is the website where we stayed. There is a parking lot right in front of the apartment. We loved it!!
