Is Croatia suitable for a beach holiday with kids?

We fancy a beach holiday somewhere different this year. We have two small children (3 and 5). Can anyone tell me if Croatia is a suitable place for children? We%26#39;re looking for a sandy beach, pool, and a nice hotel with good food and amenities.

There is a fantastic kids beach on the island of Rab, in the North-east of the island if I recall correctly. The water is only knee deep quite far out, sandy beaches and the water warm.

I don%26#39;t know the hotels there as I stayed elsewhere, but they have nice icecream :)

Polar, it is called RAJSKA PLAŽA and it is in Lopar on the island Rab.

The Croatians seem to be quite family friendly (I went there last year and don%26#39;t have children but noticed) however a lot of the beaches are pebble beaches.

I do not think that the sand beaches are good for little children,due to bacteries in sand,pebble is better.

I am heading there this summer and have heard that you need to take (or puchase cheaply there) water shoes as there are sea urchins.... it looks fantastic for families though - well hope so as we have 3 kids....

I have seen sea urchins in some places, but not all. I don%26#39;t think that water shoes are a necessity, but it wouldn%26#39;t hurt to buy some. I have never used them.

Thanks everyone, can anyone recommend a hotel in particular? I really fancy Croatia or Slovenia, but the hotels in the regular holiday brochures are not rating very highly.
