First timers in Croatia... any recommendations?

Hi all,

My partner and I are spending two weeks in Croatia in June, and having looked at the brochures am very confused about where to go. If anyone has any recommendations about good places to visit as first time visitors I%26#39;d be really grateful.

Also, is it worth staying in one place or trying to combine two regions?

I look forward to hearing your thoughts...

First time visitors should definitely stick to the coast: Zadar, Sibenik, NP Krka, Trogir, Split, islands of Hvar, Brac, Vis, Korcula and wonderful Dubrovnik are something you should definitely consider

Hi

I absolutely recommend Dubrovnik. It%26#39;s the most beautiful city I have visited and I have visited many. The coastal towns of Split, Sibenik and Makarska are also very nice.

If like to get a bit of the coast the surroundings of the Krka river are very beautiful (up from Sibenik).

Boat trips to the islands or even a few day cruise would also be very nice.

Have a nice trip :)

Thanks for your recommendations - it gives me a good starting point.

Do you guys normally travel on a package tour, or do things independently? Which would you recommend?

We rented a car in Dubrovnik and drove (via ferry) to Korcula, Split, Plitvice and up to Lake Bled, Slovenia. The roads are great and the driving is easy and well marked. I prefer to do it myself so I can decide what I do. We also took a day trip from Dubrovnik to Montenegro which was great. I also really loved Plitvice National Park. The apartments in Dubrovnik are very reasonably priced and a good location is right outside Ploce Gate of the Old City(it is where they take all the pictures of the old city from!)

I also agree that Dubrovnik is a must to see. I would also venture out to the islands if at all possible.
