my friend n i are planning on visiting croatia in sept as part of a eastern european trip. we think we have approx one week. starting in dubrovnik and having to fly out of pula. but we want to go plitvice lakes, does anyone have any suggestions of how to plan our itinary? can we go as a day trip or on the way north?

see Plitvice on your way to Pula.Going there from Dubrovnik is exhausting.
If you are water lover do not miss Krka NP.

I would say that you should stop there on the way north. Stay a night in a place like Zadar, get up early in the morning, drive to Plitvice and spend a few hours there and proceed to Istria somewhere.

If I get in from Dubrovnik via Venice, what is the route to go to the Plitvice Lakes?

We started our trip in Dubrovnik. Then we went to Korcula for a night, then took the ferry to Split and drove from Split to Plitvice in the late afternoon and arrived at around 9pm. You could then drive on to Pula from there. I LOVED Plitvice and wouldn%26#39;t miss it! It is really something to see!!

kicking asphalt- From Dubrovnik you would have to take the coastal road to Split, then take the autocesta from Split inland to Plitvice.

hey cheers for all your suggestions! our pula flight has now been cancelled and we are departing from split now. we are now thinking of travelling south as before croatia we will be in budapest. which is a bit of a pain means if we want to see dubrovnik we need to go past split and go back north afterwards.
