Hi - We will be staying in Korcula for 3 nights in the 2nd week of May. We will be going on the catamaran from Split to Korcula. A few questions:
1) Is carrying luggage (1 suitcase, 1 backpack and a big pram) on the catamaran an issue at all? Do we have to pay extra for the luggage and is there a place to store it onboard?
2) The Jadrojrolinija ferry from Split drops us off at Vela Luka. How can we get to Korcula old town, how long will it take and how much will it cost us?
3)Do you think we will be able to get ferry/catamaran tickets if we only buy them after we get to Croatia?
4) How easy might it be to travel within Korcula if we don%26#39;t rent a car or scooter?
5) Finally, a non-transport question - will the Moreska dance show be performed on a Thursday night in May, since it%26#39;s not quite summer?
Thanks very much.

Hi firstly no problem with luggage on the catamaran or ferry - you do not have to pay any extra you can take as much as you like and there is no problem with storage (some problem in high season when ferries/catamaran is full !!)
Should you get the Jadrolinija ferry there is a bus which runs quite often from the port into Korcula town and this does not cost very much (not sure about exact cost but know it is low)
You can buy the ferry/catamaran tickets just before you board (allow 10 minutes just in case there is a queue !)
You can travel to any part of Korcula by bus and in May there will also be water taxis to various parts of Korcula. These are quite cheap as they are similar to buses you do not have the %26quot;water taxi to yourself others get on and share the cost etc
From early May onwards the Moreska dance show is on every Thursday night so no problem
Have a nice trip !

Thanks so much. That answers everything. I read a couple of your other forum postings and am fascinated that you loved Korcula so much that you decided to move there permanently!!
I suppose then that you%26#39;d be the best person to ask about suitable accommodation for us in Korcula Old town. My husband and I will be travelling with a 3yr old and 1 yr old, so we%26#39;ll need a place with at least one bedroom with an extra bed (a cot as well would be a super bonus) and a balcony with a view (to drink and enjoy the view while the kiddies sleep). Any suggestions would be welcome!
Thanks.

If you pm me I will give you personal recommedations but will not advetise on this site ! There are lots of places you can stay in town but would not recommend staying %26quot;in town%26quot; if you have small child due to noise from bars etc May will not be too noisy but as an older person (not too old !!) would say stay at least a 400m raduis - not to far away to walk and still within a few minutes to town - within easy reach to buses etc but suggest with small child stay away from centre. But this is just my say and if you wish it there are some really nice apartments within the old town that you would wish to rent - just let me know and I will check into these for you and find out how much they will cost etc
Have a Great Holiday here in Croatia !!
You will want to come back !!

A related question: We%26#39;ll be traveling to Korcula in early June this year. Will we need advance reservations?

Hi Korcula - I apologize for jumping in on this forum.
I did not realize that there were water taxis to various parts of the island. We will be in Korcula for about 1-1/2 days the middle of May. We are not beach people. Could you suggest some interesting places to visit via the water taxi? Also, how often do they run? We do not want to get stranded.
Also on the subject of transportation. I believe I read that there is only one bus a day from Korcula/Orebic to Dubrovnik, and I believe that is an early morning bus. Am I correct? We will be leaving on Friday, May 16. If that is the only bus, what other means of transportation could you suggest to get to Dubrovnik, leaving in the afternoon?
Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Hi - In May do not know how many water taxis are available (lots in high season) for you being here such a short time do not know if you would really have the time to explore many local islands etc. Would advise that maybe you take the local bus from central bus station in Korcula and take bus to %26quot;Vela Luka%26quot; which is at the end of the island. This way you would pass through many small villages and towns and see quite a lot in one day. You could then spend a few hours in Vela Luka which is a main port town and then return to main Korcula town same day. The buses run frequently and the trip takes around one hour there and one hour back. There will be some water taxis available maybe to Badij or Viganje - if you go to both marinas in town you will see them with signs saying where they go and they will also let you know when they are coming back so no fear of you being stranded !!
As to bus to Dubrovnik - there is only one bus a day at 6.45am - you can also go to the Atlas travel agency in town as they arrange boat/buses to Dubrovnik in the afternoon but do not know times. On Tuesday at 13.00 and on Saturday at 11.30 you can take the Jadrolinija ferry to Dubrovnik - arriving in Dubrovnik at 16.15 and 14.30 in May.
There website is http://www.jadrolinija.hr/default.aspx?lang=2
for timetables or you may wish to go into the local Korcula website which is www.korcula.net - they have timetables of all ferries/buses etc and info on Korcula.
Hope this helps - have a good trip !!

Hi....I am also from Sydney and am going to Korcula in Oct%26#39;08...I am very interested to know where you stayed, as I have spent hours trying to find decent, centrally located accommodation in %26#39;Korcula Town%26#39; for my husband and myself.
Would love any other %26#39;must not miss%26#39; info, restaurants, sights etc....anything would be greatfully accepted.
We are travelling to: Trogir, Hvar, Dubrovnik, BIH %26amp; Montenegro.
How did you book ferry transport?
Would love to hear about your trip...
Thanks Liz
