Where to stay between Plitvice Lakes and Rovinji?

Hello,

We will be starting the day (early) in Zagreb and driving to the Plitvice Lakes and ending our day and staying over somewhere along the way to Rovinji (or Pula...TBD later).

Is it reasonable to think we can make it to Opatija or Rijeka? Which of these two towns would you recommend staying in? Any specific hotels or things to do/see are greatly appreciated!

* We will be driving a rental car.

Thank you all very much!

Phil

Really tired or over-relaxed Plitvice may deflate driving drive. But you may do those 111 miles in 3-4 hrs .Over Otocac down to Senj (nice daytime scenic road option) or via Ogulin and mainly highway (which is a good - being exhausted.)

If you like to walk and dine in not so noisy area Opatija would suit you fine.Parks and promenade(s) are their landmarks.50 hotels to choose from…..try “Belvedere” ?

Rijeka has more fun in a terms of clubs/bars.Hotel “Jadran” is a bit off center ,too easy to find and right above the sea.Walk through and around city center and up at the Trsat fort.

if fed up driving, there is a double decker sightseeing bus that goes to/through those two places.I think it is $16 per head.

In Senj,Ogulin (or Delnice) you may be able to find a sleeper if you really can not drive. (Hardly a match to Rijeka/Opatija but good spare option).

I would just get to Opatija and spend the night there. That won%26#39;t be too long of a drive from Plitvice.

Try Lovran just down the coast from Opatija, we stayed a couple of nights in the Pension Stanger it has a web site, just a small clean and friendly hotel.

I would also recommend Pansion Stanger in Lovran near Opatija. We stayed there last October-delightful place. Excellent breakfast buffet and roomy, clean rooms, many with large patios and good view of the sea. Reasonable prices. You can drive into Opatija and stroll along the promenade. Their website is pansion-stanger.hr
