we are going to Croatia for two weeks in September , would like to see a few places but dont want to spend the whole time travelling, thinking of flying into Split and flying out of Dubrovonik, can anyone help me with a suggested itinerary, there are so many places to see i dont know how to choose, domt want to hire a car

Fly into Split and stop and stay in Trogir for a couple of nights. Then head to Split and head out to the islands--- first to Hvar and then on to Korcula, each for at least a couple of nights. Spend the rest of your time in Dubrovnik, taking day trips to the local islands, Montenegro and Mostar in Herzegovina.

Barry gave you the right advice! That is simply the best route for your trip.

thanks for the advice, can you give me an idea of how long it takes to get to each place, should i stay in split overnight? should i visit Brac?

A night in Split is a decent idea. You will just have to check the Jadrolinija schedule to see when the ferry or catarman leaves Split to get to Hvar. Then check again to see when it can take you to Korcula. I also think Brac is a great choice, just see if it fits into your schedule!

Also, the island of Vis is great - you get there from Split as well.
You can either take the bus from Split to Dubrovnik which goes down the Adriatic coast with fantastic views and takes about 4-5 hours or you can take the ferry from Split. This takes all day but is a great trip. It calls into Hvar and Korcula so you could use it from Hvar if you go there. Korcula is where Marco Polo is supposed to have come from and looks lovely from the ferry. I did Split to Dub on the bus and Dub back to Split on the boat last October. Both were great.

check out sailing. There are plenty of companies in croatia that do the trip from split to dubrovnik over 7 days stopping at Makarska (my personal favorite), Hvar, Korcula, Bol, and dubrovnik. Some companies return back to split within the 7 days, but there are some who do the trip one way allowing more time on the islands. I did this trip with sail-croatia last year for my birthday and it was the best trip of my life. Everything is taken care of for you, except dinner. They will usually put you on a boat with people around your age group. Just an option.

thanks for all the help
Do you stay on the boat for the cruise at night
|||
Yes. You get your own room (small, but honestly you dont spend much time in there anyway) There are usually two/three decks on the boat so you can just laze about while you are sailing between the islands - i have never been so relaxed) then you come into the islands you have the afternoon to explore and sort out your own dinner. Breakfast and lunch are provided and they were amazing. Three courses usually breads, hams, cheeses and cereal for breakfast and lunch is usually soup or salad then a hot lunch then dessert. There is also a bar on board basic but cheap.
If you wanted to research this option i would recommend going one way to allow more time in dubrovnik.

oh i forgot to say...you do most of your cruising in the morning and stay in dock at night. Not sailing at night.
