Dubrovnik and Italy

Hi, just at the beginning stages of trying to plan a vacation this summer...half of my family ( 4 of us, 2 adults,2 older teenagers) want to go to Italy (Rome), the other half Croatia, is it possible to do both, aren%26#39;t they just across the sea from one another. I want to go to Italy for the history, my husband wants to go to Croatia because he thinks we can get more bank for our buck....we will be travelling to either place from Denver...any thoughts welcome...thank you in advance.

absolutely doable!

Fly into Rome and stay there for few days (depends on how much time you have for your vacation), take a train to Bari and then take the ferry to Dubrovnik. Rome is more expensive than Dubrovnik but don%26#39;t expect Dubrovnik to be anything cheap!

How long is the travel time in each leg?

Hi,

I think it%26#39;ll be a perfect vacation; you have a few options; Rome - Split /or Dubrovnik/ by plane; www.croatiaairlines.hr

Rome-Bari by train

trenitalia.com/it/4f19b222631f4010VgnVCM1000…

or, rent a car Rome-Pescara-Bari /National Parc Gargano is a must - wonderful place/ then by ferry to Dubrovnik

Rome-Ancona by train then ferry to Split....

Jeanne,

I%26#39;m getting confused with the port of call at the Italy side, from the different responses in many forums.

Moving from Dubrevnik to Italy, is the nearest port Rome, Venice or Como? And am I confused because of the different modes - train, bus, ferry?

The nearest port is Bari...

please let me know where do you want to go in the first place /Italy or Croatia/, what cities /in Italy and Croatia/ do you like to visit and how long are you going to stay and I%26#39;ll do my best to give you /I hope :-)/ the best suggestion

Thanks Jeanne.

I%26quot;m actually swept away by Croatia, but flights from Asia need transfer from Italy -which I was informed would be the nearest airport to Dubrovnik, therefore it may be sensible to come around Italy also. The nearest flight would be Milan?

Is Venice, Florence, Rome in the same area in Italy? I%26#39;m bad in Geography. I know we can get from Venice to Lake Como. And I heard it%26#39;s beeeauuutiful at the lake. But I%26#39;ll also be doing Plitvice in Croatia, would there be an overlap.

I have around 10-15 days, so I try not to squeeze in too many Italian cities. 1-2 should do.

Venezia - Veneto /North/ if you go there visit Istria...

Firenze - Toscana /Central/

Roma - Lazio - central part- southern of Toscana

stay in Rome for 4-5 days; then by plane to Split or Dubrovnik.....

or train to Bari /4.5 hrs drive if Eurostar - Regional cca 6 hrs/ then by ferry to Dubrovnik

bye
