I am hoping that someone, or some people, can help me out with a dilemma. My partner and I are starting to think about our summer holiday and we are thinking about 7-14 days camping, with a good beach, charming towns with a sense of history and culture, good food and wine and somewhere that is ideally off the beaten track. It also needs to be within a good day%26#39;s drive from Switzerland as that%26#39;s where we will be leaving from.
Our short list has got down to two options, Croatia (possibly Istria?) or Corsica.
As we have been to neither place, we have no idea of possibly places to go to, or even which we should choose.
I am therefore hoping that you may be able to give us some ideas or hints that could influence where we end up going to.
Thanks in advance for your help and ideas ....

i would choose Rab island... Simply fantastic nature, great food, good camps...

I would also throw in the suggestion of the Island of Krk, then go to Rab.

Wow. Tough choice. I%26#39;ve taken separate trips to Croatia and Corsica recently, and loved both. Moreover, both are full of the things you want - - great beaches, charming towns, good food and wine, a sense of history and a place a bit off the beaten track.
Of course, if you are bent on driving from Switzerland, Croatia is your option, since you will need to fly or ferry if you want to go to Corsica.
A few ideas:
You can camp in both places, and both have remarkable, out of the way places in the mountains that are fabulous for hiking and camping. In Croatia, give serious thought to the sublime Plitvice Lakes, and in Corsica, some of the most wonderful hiking and camping in Europe is in the back country of the Restonica, just west of Corte.
Both Croatia and Corsica have a great sense of history, although in both places, it is a largely study of troubles. Croatia had a particularly grim a 20th century, but one of the delights of visiting now is sense of freedom and energy, perhaps a product of achieving independence after centuries of rule by others.
As a general matter, there are more tourism facilities on the Dalmatian coast than in Corsica, although that is changing rapidly. The coastal areas of both are just stunning, as are the mountains. As far as %26quot;culture%26quot; goes, you will find more museums and classical entertainment in Croatia (particularly Zagreb and Dubrovnik), and more of a summer %26quot;party scene%26quot; there as well (not exactly a plus in my book, but many people seek it out). Corsica has one of the world%26#39;s great, if still obscure (this is changing rapidly, too), traditional folk music scenes: once you hear the haunting acapella multi-track harmonic singing, you will NEVER forget it.
Croatia is a bit easier to get around. Corsica has great roads, but is unbelievably rugged.
In Croatia, do NOT miss Dubrovnik, or the Plitvice Lakes, or a side trip to the Bay of Kotor in Montenegro.
In Corsica, do NOT miss Bonifacio, Filitosa, and a hiking trip deep into the mountains.

Thanks for your thoughts :)
