weather in Croatia

Am considering a 2 weektrip to Croatia sometime during the November to February period. What kind of weather can I expect during that time ? What would be recommended, during that period for a 2 week stay ? Are there any Christmans Fairs in the area? Vic S.

Hard to tell, the weather around here is really changing, and is unpredictable.

December, January, February are the coldest months, in Zagreb and inlands it often means frost, cold, grey skies, temp -5 to +5; but last two winters were mild and it could a new trend.

Coast is sunnier and warmer, but bring your warm clothes along too (some cold winds there). November is not that cold usually, more like late autumn type of weather. Zagreb average is 6 degrees, coast 14.

There are Christmas markets, the largest one is in Zagreb, lasts through December.

Can't decide between Hvar and Korcula also Trogir and Split!

My husband and l will be staying a few days in Dubrovnik and for the peace and quiet, Vis. We also want to see both Hvar and Korcula but l feel a day trip won%26#39;t be enough. Is it possible to do a day trip on one of these islands then stay maybe two nghts on the other? I get the feeling that Korcula is %26quot;busier%26quot; with more things to see. As for Hvar,I read in %26quot;The rough guide%26quot; that Stari grad and Hvar Town are really the prettiest places to visit so maybe a day trip is all that is needed there? But... what about the lavender fields and beautiful scenery, is it hard to get to?! Sorry l%26#39;m rambling!

As for Trogir, some say it%26#39;s prettier than Split l%26#39;m thinking allocating a day trip for Split and maybe two days n Trogir. It sounds quieter with more of a village feel. Any help would be appreciated!

PS: If we have to choose between Hvar and Korcula, l%26#39;m asking the impossible l%26#39;m sure but which one would be recommended? We love history, pretty scenery and not overly crowded,

I have been in Vis last year and, you%26#39;re right, it was TOO quiet.... just an advice: find the accommodation close to Cheshka Villa; why don%26#39;t you choose Komiza?????

Day trips are possible all over Croatia, just, go in some tour-agency;

both, Korcula and Hvar are small, so, you can see everything in 2,3 hours;

as regards lavender fields, it depends when, in the spring or summer????

between Split and Trogir? go for Trogir... it is only 26km away from Split and you can take the bus /or the boat/ to visit Split...

I%26#39;d do it in this way

Dubrovnik /one day trip Korcula/ or 1 night

Dubrovnik-Split by bus

ferry Split-Vis...

back to Split, than Trogir by bus /one day trip to Hvar - you can do it from Vis too

fly back to..... from Split AP

Vis is fabulous! Definitely not too quiet for me. Just loved it - one of my favourite islands in Croatia (or in the world for that matter). Another is Mljet. I truly do not know what to say about Hvar and Korcula as I have other preferences. They are gorgeous but too commercial and resorty for me. It depends what you like.

I think Trogir is far prettier than Split and such a charming place to stay. However, Split can be interesting for a day. Trogir isn%26#39;t really quiet (it%26#39;s bustling) but much smaller. It really is a lovely place - a must do in my opinion.

Another vote for staying in Trogir over Split. Split, and in particulary Diocleatian%26#39;s Palce, is well worth a day trip but strolling around Trogir in the evening is much nicer...and romantic.

If you have 2 full days in Trogir you could also consider hiring a car and going to Krka national park for the day.

Talk about Sophie%26#39;s Choice! I too loved Vis and stayed in Komiza. Hvar is lovely and there is much more to it than the 2 ports. However, I haven%26#39;t been in lavender season. Trogir is much nicer than Split but the boats go from Split and if you have to catch any early boats that might help. Trogir does allow visits north as another post said - Krka is worth a visit. You can go from Vis to Hvar on the boat and from Hvar to Korcula (Vela Luka) so maybe everything is possible? I have only been passed Korcula on the ferry from Dubrovnik to Split but it looked well worth a visit. However, I couldn%26#39;t genuinely say Hvar or Korcula as I haven%26#39;t been to Korcula.

Of course, none of this helps with your decision...

Thank you everyone! We have booked 4 nights in Trogir with the intention of doing a few days trips to Split, Krk and possibly Vis. Hvar l think we will miss as much as it pains me! But we%26#39;ll be staying 7 nights in Dubrovnik. l know everyone says 3 nights are enough but we want to visit the small villages around Dubrovnik as well as the town itself. Also the Elaphite Islands, they look gorgeous and they%26#39;re close to Dubrovnik so there%26#39;s no hassle to get to them.

We want to take our time and relax! Can%26#39;t wait...

where to go? where to stay?

Morning,

We are considering visiting Croatia in July/August time and have no idea where to stay it is all so lovely!!

We are a family of 3 which consists of 1 adult and 2 teenagers (13 and 15) all female I would like an all inclusive resort so there is plenty for the girls to do and people to mix with that way I can relax by the pool all day lol!

All suggestions greatly appreciated.

How about Bol on Brac?

We were at this hotel on Bol 18 months ago. Seems OK for families and though we are both in our 60%26#39;s we both enjoyed our stay. There were not many UK visitors but it is near the famous Zlatni Rat beach.

If your kids like tennis the hotel adjoins a large tennis centre where coaching is available.

One thing I do remember is the excellent quality of the staff.

Evening entertainment was mainly German based.

A sister hotel to Bonanca is the Elaphusa. It is right next door but had a major upgrade last year and now has a fabulous spa - this is open to non-residents so it doesn%26#39;t really matter but I think Elaphusa is a bit smarter than Bonaca (4 star vs. 3 star). That said, Bonaca has family rooms in which you could all stay together but I think you%26#39;d have to take two rooms in Elaphusa. They are both part of the Bluesun hotel chain who have a third hotel just there called Riu Borak which is also 4 star.

well... there really is plenty to do %26amp; see... the islands are particulary nice, ofchores, there are also plenty of small cities on the shore where you may see a life much more different then anywhere in the world...

my advice is to visit more different places, and not to book one destination only...

Wine shop in Split

Hi,

I have heard great things about Croatian wine and would like to buy some to bring home when our cruise stops in Split this May. Does anyone know of a good wine shop in the center of town where I might be able to sample some local wines before buying? We will be limited to the area around the palace and Riva since we won%26#39;t have a car.

That place looks WONDERFUL! Thank you! I think we will only have a half day in Split. I think we are going to try to catch a bus to Trogir for the other half of the day. Actually, can you tell me if there are frequent buses? I have an old guidebook that said to go to the bus station by the boat terminal and any bus going north will stop in Trogir. Is that correct?

It is correct but still take a look and see if the bus is going to Trogir or not. Some buses take the newly built highway and then you will not reach trogir

Only place in Split where you can taste and buy wine is enoteka next to beach Bacvice building next to Touris board of Split County.I do not know name but it is easy to find.When you are on cruise Diocletian palace will be on the left.You go right folowing light house.On the top of small hill there is bridge accross railway only 100 meter from port.Pass bridge go straight On left side will be wall and right beach Bacvice.In the end of wall where is parking turn left and go straight 50 meter on left is Enoteka.You can not miss.Then you can easolly get back in the city

you got also small wine shop, that is easier to find, its in centre, just by the prokurative and fountain.

Go into the bus station to buy your ticket. When you ask for Trogir they will tell you which bus to get from which stop. You can%26#39;t go wrong.

Advice for a cool Croatian summer 2008.

Hi

I was planning to go come to Croatia next summer. Generally in the group of my friend I am in charge of organize more or less all, and so I started to study something already now…

First of all me and my friends have already been to Croatia on 2003 (Hvar) and 2006 (Pag-Novalja).

Because of the last one has been very very appreciated, they asked me to study something cool and similar to Novalja/Zrce. We are a group of 4/5 people 28/30 yrs old. We like very much a place where you can find great beaches (preferibly not rocks) and even cool nightlife (or beach party also). Another basic aspect is that there wouldn’t be Italians or at least few (just to be clear I am Italian, but I don’t like to have meet them on holiday… ), For these reasons we found Novalja, really super cool. The period should be the first 10 days of July, more or less. Jumping around on the web, I found some names of cities/places, but before studying all of them in the specific, I would like some advice from you, because I noticed that you are an expert of Croatia in general.

The places are:

- Rijeka

- Bol

- Dubrovnik

- Bacvice

- Porec

- Rovigno

- Pola

- Opatija

- Malinska (isola di Krk)

- Crikvenica ,

- Split

- Brac ,

- Makarska (Pjer)

- Dugi Otok

- Slanica

- Murter

Can you give me your opinion on these places. From what I read until now, I am oriented to Bol and Dubrovnik (beautiful but maybe too expensive in comparison to others). But I have heard that there are even other places that seem to be calm and boring, but that in last years are becoming more partying… (like Dugi Otok and Murter). If you have any cool advice, please give me…

well first of all, Croatia doesn%26#39;t really have the sand beaches, it%26#39;s kinda not our style :)

I will not be giving you any advices, because I%26#39;m a Croat, and in fact love my whole country... I could never decide which one is the best in between the cities you mentioned.

Anyway, I just hope you have a pleasant holiday. And trust me, wherever you go, the most important thing is to be surrounded by good people who are a lot of fun. In this way you can%26#39;t have a bad holiday, right?

Then, well..., I get your opinion to not give me any suggestion... Of course is great to be surrounded by good people... I just asked because when I organized in 2006 Pag holidays, my friends were really enthusiastic...

Ok... what I meant is that you can give me even only a couple of advice about the city...It%26#39;s not necessary that you have to detail particulars for each cities...

This is a long and demanding post and that is why no one probably reads it to the end :)You ask people to describe half the coast :))

Vodice may be a good spot for you with several hot clubs in the area: Hacienda, Aurora in primosten, cafes in Sibenik...

Murter is also close so you can check that out as well but none compares to Novalja.

Also, beginning of July may be a bit slow so arround the 15th would be best time to come over.

Dubrovnik is also OK but start looking for something affordable right now since it is booking fast. Hotel Uvala **** would be my choice

apartment with balcony and sea view - dubrovonik

I am looking for an apartment for two people with a balcony and a sea view in dubrovonik in september, would it be nice to stay by the sea in dubrovonik, what area would be nice? i wsill be staying for seven nights,

I stayed about 50 steps vertically UP above the Excelsior Hotel.

Really nice apartments with fantastic views - I stayed in Lukre 2 which is small, but Lukre I is much bigger. It%26#39;s about 5 minutes walk to the Ploce Gate, and about 10 minutes back given the climb, but those 50 odd steps are nothing to what some people have to contend with!

We stayed in Apt Lukre last July and it was great! Sure it says it is for four people but really I think it is better for 2. There are 2 distinct sleeping areas, but one is kind of lofted above the apartment (you can tell from the pictures fairly well). We were there during a heat wave and even with the AC full blast that top bunk would be pretty hot I think. The main level was perfect though, and we like it cool. There is a huge staircase to get down to the road that goes by the beach and up to Ploce gate, but the view makes it worth walking those steps. Also a little grocery store is not too far down the street so we were in there getting supplies to drink and eat while enjoying the sunset from the balcony. One night after going out in town we even pulled the mattress from the couch out on the balcony and slept out there!
